While searching around for a more portable option, (Since squatting on crown land isn't that legal) I came across this sweet little tensile tent idea. Tentsile! Worth a peek if you're into tenting! http://www.tentsile.com/
On another note, it's a beauty day today. Going to go out on an infield tree survey after class!
Hey Bud! I came across a pretty solid suspended structure page if your interested in checking it out!

Great topic! Do you know what the longevity of a tree house would be versus a generic house?
ReplyDeleteIt would be neat to see how long one could last!
DeleteYou would really have to trust the engineering and set-up of these tents! I have a hard enough time getting my old fashioned tent to stay up.
ReplyDeleteIs it really necessary to be suspended if it is a portable structure?
I've also been exploring the idea of attaching a tree house to a tree with bolts or rope from the base. If I can find a system that works with various sizes of trees, with little to no damage to the tree, I'll probably go that route.
DeleteLooking into tensile design is a neat idea, as long as it is guaranteed that this structure will be sturdy enough to withstand the elements and the load that is to be held by this tent. Maybe looking into a mixture of tensile tenting and timber design could be a more sturdy option?
